Adrian Taylor — Rehearsal Accompanist
Southampton Philharmonic Choir is delighted to welcome Adrian as our rehearsal accompanist, succeeding Paul Spanton, who retired last season after 15 years in post. A flexible and accomplished musician, Adrian brings a wealth of experience spanning sacred, theatrical and popular repertoire—and is already thoroughly enjoying rehearsals for our next major concert, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, to be performed on 6 December 2025 at O2 Guildhall Southampton
Adrian served for ten years as Assistant Organist at Romsey Abbey, where he accompanied the choirs for the full weekly round of services and supported numerous concerts and special events. His work included tours to the cathedrals of Wells, Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester, as well as many services at Winchester and Salisbury. During this time he recorded three CDs, contributed to an edition of BBC Songs of Praise, and was honoured to accompany a wedding attended by Her late Majesty The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, and visiting heads of state.
He holds the Archbishop’s Certificate in Church Music, during which he received a masterclass under renowned organist David Briggs, Artist-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York. Adrian earned a warmly received “bravo” for his performance of a Howells Psalm Prelude.
In addition to his new role with SPC, Adrian regularly plays the organ at St Michael’s, Southampton, supports services in Copythorne, and remains involved in a wide range of musical events across the region.
